DESIGN FOR FLOW

Upgrade how your team communicates, collaborates, and delivers

Your journey to dependable delivery

Are you responsible for delivery management and tired of software releases dragging on forever? Sick of your team burning out just to hit deadlines?

Or perhaps you are moving into delivery management and want to set things up right from the start.

Design for Flow equips you with the mindset, skillset, and toolset to help your team deliver consistently on time, without micromanaging or frazzling your co‑workers.

Elevating your delivery game is easy with our highly curated, framework‑agnostic delivery management course.

Design for Flow: a practical path to predictable, sustainable delivery

You’ll learn to:

  • Design a delivery process that fits your context, and set it up for success.

  • Plan and sequence work at multiple levels, from vision to daily flow.

  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders and manage expectations.

  • Manage and mitigate risks using simple, visual tools.

  • Analyse and continually improve your process without adding bureaucracy.

Whether your team has a dedicated delivery manager or shares the responsibilities across roles (tech lead, product manager, engineering manager), these practices are designed to be co‑created with the whole team.

How Design for Flow can help

Design for Flow works with your team to redesign how work actually moves

by creating clarity, alignment, and realistic planning.

You’ll use insights from your own system to reduce stress, improve flow,

and build delivery practices that people can sustain.

Design for Flow is for you if you want to:

  • Set up a healthy delivery process for a new or growing team

  • Improve an existing process that technically works but drains energy

  • Reduce urgency and overload without slowing outcomes

  • Build a learning culture where improvement is part of daily work

What Design for Flow means

Design for Flow is a practical program for leaders and teams who want delivery

without the stress, firefighting, and burnout that often come with fast-moving work.

It will teach you the tools, strategies and mindsets to create the systems that:

  • Deliver on goals without burnout

  • Build trust and alignment in your team

  • Turn strategy into everyday action

  • Confidently adapt to change without derailing delivery

  • Know exactly what to prioritise (and what to drop)

  • Reduce unnecessary friction in planning and execution

  • Create predictable, sustainable delivery cycles

Is Design for Flow for you?

This is a good fit if:

  • You lead or support software teams and want less chaos and more clarity.

  • You feel the cost of poor planning and unclear priorities in stress, frustration, and rework.

  • You sense your teams could do their best work if the system around them were better designed.

Share a bit about your context (company size, number of teams, biggest delivery or team‑health challenge), and I’ll recommend the best way to start and outline what the first 4–6 weeks of working together could look like.

You’ll get the most out of this course if you:

  • Support your team’s delivery (e.g. tech lead, product manager)

  • Are stepping into a delivery management role

  • Work in a team without a dedicated delivery lead

  • Want to improve how your organisation delivers outcomes

Format and Commitment

  • Cohort-based course

  • Individual learning with course material, ~2 hours/week

  • Weekly live sessions to consolidate learning, 1h/week

  • Combination of input, reflection, and discussion

  • Designed to fit alongside real delivery work

Who this work is for

Design for Flow is for people working in software delivery who:

  • feel caught between delivery pressure and sustainability

  • sense that more process won’t solve the real problem

  • want to understand what’s really shaping outcomes

It’s especially relevant if you:

  • influence how work is shaped, planned, or prioritised

  • sit between strategy and execution

You’ll get the most out of this course if you:

  • Support your team’s delivery (e.g. tech lead, product manager)

  • Are stepping into a delivery management role

  • Work in a team without a dedicated delivery lead

  • Want to improve how your organisation delivers outcomes

The Course

What we will focus on

Throughout the course, we work with the full delivery landscape, including:

  • connecting day-to-day work to organisational direction

  • shaping work items so they support flow instead of fragmentation

  • making risks visible early, not retrospectively

  • planning that reflects uncertainty rather than wishful thinking

  • working with stakeholders without distorting priorities

  • using tracking and retrospectives as learning tools, not rituals

We use proven templates and structures as starting points.
They exist to support thinking, not replace it.

You will learn how to

  • Improve communication and make sure key information
is always available to the team so that they can self organise

  • Design a delivery process to protect the team’s focus and minimise distractions

  • Visualise flow to highlight bottlenecks and communicate status visually

  • Add lean management methods to your process design

What others say

A reminder of what one set of sensible defaults look like, and how important it is to spend time setting things up!

It was a pleasure taking the course, and I thought the material was high-quality and very thoughtful. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next

Duncan Mortimer

Head of Engineering

Thank you for the great and well prepared course. I especially enjoyed that you were able to also bring insights from your experience out in the field to the round. It is always great to bring practical examples together with the theory. Also to highlight that out there things never work a 100% like in the textbook. So was also great to see how you were able to extrapolate approaches to fit the use cases shared.

I also enjoyed the mixed group with different contexts. That made the experience more valuable.

Maria Petrikova

Engineering Manager

Great insights about best practices. Learning new ones and validating some processes done within my team.

The main leanings was how to plan properly (scope, content, timing) and about ways to do early analysis on projects (focused on risks, skills...).

Arthur Bouteillier

Senior Product Manager

Course structure

The course consists of two elements:

content and live consolidation calls

The content includes theory, practical exercises to try and templates to use with your team.

Attending the weekly group consolidation calls will strengthen your learning.

You can share your insights and dive deeper into a particular topic.

Each session combines:

  • focused input

  • shared sense-making

  • discussion grounded in real life delivery situations

About Jo

Supporting teams and organisations to work more effectively without sacrificing well-being by cultivating the mindsets, habits, and systems that enable meaningful work.

My approach blends coaching, systems thinking, and practical tools to foster outcome-focused, human ways of working rooted in clarity, sustainability, and alignment. I support team enablement through coaching, training, and consulting.

In the past I have covered delivery management, quality management, analysis as well as management and execution of projects, teams, programmes, and products.

I have lead delivery management in a wide variety of different contexts (enterprise, scale-up, non-profit) and lots of different setups. I have applied these practices hands-on and also consulted others on how to implement them.

Organisational and Individual Work

Design for Flow is the organisational expression of the same principles

that guide my work through The Travelling Coach.

At the individual level, this means:

  • designing habits for imperfect days

  • working with identity, not just behaviour

  • building systems that hold under real conditions

At the organisational level, the same logic applies:

  • systems shape behaviour

  • design beats force

  • responsibility includes the environments we create

This is one body of work, applied at different scales.
